Obituary

One June 11, 2010, HAZEL JUNE CURRENT WATTERS, 64, of 11850 Indian Lane, Foggy Bottom Farm, Hagerstown, Maryland, returned home to Christ and our Lord Father, and to all her loved ones already passed. Hazel passed away at her home in the loving care and presence of dear family members and Hospice. Born June 30, 1945 in Sheldon, Missouri, Hazel was raised by her grandparents, Fay Emery and Sybel Charlott Current, her Aunt Floris Current and Uncle Bill Current, and her mother, Dorothy Jantz. Hazel was preceded in death by her first born son, Thomas Watters in 1968, and her husband, Gary Watters in June of 1996. She was a lifetime member of Church of Christ, the Sierra Club, and the Smithsonian Institute. Hazel was an English teacher for the Board of Education of Montgomery County, Alabama. She was the President of the Creative Writers Society and Young Poets Association for many years. In Maryland, she was an Allstate Insurance Agent, and worked at Sears in Hagerstown. Hazel (Gigi) is survived by: her son, Douglas Watters, and his wife, Lea, of Corpus Christi, Texas; her son, Victor Watters, and his wife, Rebecca, and their children Megan and Laura Watters, Courtney Meng, and Michael Alamo, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and her daughter, Marcia Watters, and her husband, James C. Smith, and their children, James, William and Grace Wattersmith, all of Hagerstown, Maryland. A memorial service for Hazel will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 7:00 p. m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Friends and family are invited to share a favorite memory or story about Hazel. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to the memorial service. Hazel was charitable in so many ways to numerous causes and organizations. In lieu of flowers, Hazel would love donations to be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Gifts to the fund can be sent in the care of Hope Covert, at 110 Bryan Place, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
