Harry Leroy (Bud) Shockey, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md. Born September 8, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Harry Hezekiah Shockey and Ruth Irene Hamby. An extremely loyal husband, father, and friend, Harry gave everything to anyone and asked for nothing in return. We are all blessed to have had him in our lives he will truly be missed. Harry worked for Serv-U Vending for 42 years and continued to work long after retirement, taking care of his family, his house and rental properties, his cars, and his hunting club grounds. He was part owner of the Washington County Sportsman's Club in Indian Springs, Md., and was a member of the Western Maryland Sportsman's Club, the Eagles, Inc., and the VFW in Williamsport, Md. Harry is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Rosalie Mort Shockey, his sons Harry E. (Buddy) Shockey, Jeffrey R. Shockey, and Steven A. Shockey, his daughters Rose Marie Snyder and Barbara A. Ellis, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Ruth Irene McTavish, Zella Shockey, and Beverly Shockey, and his brother Edward Shockey. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. Rev. Edward L. Poling will officiate. Internment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Washington County Sportsman's Club in his honor to share his love of hunting with future generations.
