HARRY LEROY HAMBY, 90, of 13942 Weaver Ave., Maugansville, MD died Thursday, June 26 at his home under the care of his daughter, Peggy. Born April 21, 1918 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late Harry V. and Susie F. Bingaman Hamby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly L. Hamby December 10, 1993. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was retired from Western Maryland Railroad. He was the former owner and operator of the Cut Rate Market in the South end, 1937-1940. He was a member of the Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship. He was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post #42, B.P.O.E. Lodge #378, Hagerstown Lodge #217 A.F. and A.M., Tall Cedars #95, AMVETS #10, Eagles of Hagerstown #694, Western Maryland Oldtimers, Fountainhead Country Club, Beaver Creek Country Club, Williamsport Conococheague Redmen Tribe #84, and the United Transportation Union. He was a volunteer with the Western Maryland Hospital. He is survived by a daughter Peggy Hawbaker of Maugansville; sisters, Frances Eichelberger and Mary Bartles both of Hagerstown; two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a friend, Tess Summers; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Beulah "Betty" Renner, Helen Fox, Martha Ryan and Hazel Gilardi and brothers, Lester Hamby, David Hamby, Frank Hamby, James Hamby and Eddie Hamby. Services will be held Monday at 11:00 am at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd with Rev. Len Smith and Rev. Steve Wagoner officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors by AMVETS Post #10. The family will receive friends Sunday, 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
