Harry Felice Grandinett, 98, passed from this life on Saturday, Oct 20, 2012 . Harry lived a life full of accomplishment, joy, and love for his family and his country. Born on April 14, 1914, in Johnstown, PA, to Ortenzio and Maria Bevacqua Grandinetti. Harry graduated from Joseph Johns HS, Johnstown, PA in 1937 and from State Teachers College, Indiana, PA in 1941 with a BS in education. He was a member of the wrestling team and Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He also was a cheerleader, which suited his dynamic personality and desire to always be surrounded by pretty women. He received his master's degree in education from University of Pittsburg in 1950. Harry enlisted in the US Army and attended Officer's Candidate School at Camp Davis, NC in 1943. He served in General George Patton's Third Army, which captured more prisoners and liberated more territory than any army in history. He remained in the army reserves and retired as Lt Colonel in 1967. On June 6, 1943 Harry married Mary Anne Cotroneo in Johnstown. She was his champion, his love and life partner for nearly 65 years until her passing on March 28, 2008. After WWII Harry returned to school and spent several years working in Johnstown before taking employment with the federal government as a Manpower Development Specialist and Procurement Officer for the Department of Labor in Washington, DC. He served as a member of the Small Towns Task Force under Pres. Richard Nixon and was a member of the Board of U.S. Civil Service Examiners for the Dept. of Labor. After retirement from the federal government, Harry and Mary Anne enjoyed 25 glorious years watching the sun rise over the Banana River on Merritt Island, Florida. In 2003 they relocated to Fairplay, MD to reside with their son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Mary Ann. Harry was a charter member and first commander of AMVETS Post 90, Johnstown, PA and first VP of the Conemaugh Chapter of the Reserve Officers Assoc. He was a member of St Louis Catholic Church, Alexandria VA and of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Order. Harry is survived by his son David Harry and wife, Kay, Merritt Island, FL and son, Harry Lee and wife Mary Ann, Fairplay, MD, grandchildren Scott and wife, Amber, Kelli and husband, Josh, Caitlin, Kari and husband, Jed and Sabrina and husband, Tommy; great grandchildren, Tyler Scott and Amelia Jane. Also surviving are sisters, Gloria Long, Mayme Fisher and Mickey Freeman as well as many precious nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife he is preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Leo Grandinetti and sisters, Rose Asti and Victoria Scullen, and daughter-in-law, Janie Grandinett. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, with the Rev. George L. Limmer as celebrant. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
