It’s with profound sadness we announce the very unexpected loss of Gregory Brandt Young, 77, of Hagerstown, MD. Greg passed away on September 2, 2026, at home with his loving wife by his side. He lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, and devotion to his family.

Born October 18, 1948, the only child of the late Harry Brandt Young Jr. and Kathleen (Miller) Young. He was a proud 1966 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and attended Hagerstown Community College. While at South High, he earned Varsity Letters in football, basketball, and baseball. Most notably, when he was just a sophomore, he joined an illustrious list of South High no-hit pitchers. At the time, he was only the fourth pitcher in South High’s successful baseball history to throw a no-hitter and move into the Rebels’ Hall of Fame. Greg spent 30 years as a delivery driver with United Parcel Service and was so proud to be inducted into the UPS Circle of Honor, a prestigious award recognizing drivers who achieved 25 consecutive years or more of safe driving. He enjoyed the relationships he built with his customers as his infectious cheerfulness consistently provided a bright spot in their day. After retiring from UPS, he was employed part-time with Mid County Paint Sales.

Greg loved sports, especially baseball, with Mickey Mantle being his all-time favorite player. He would amaze us by reciting countless player statistics from decades ago. As a long-time member of The Terrapin Club, he and his wife spent many years tailgating and making memories with close friends at UMD football games. He enjoyed American history, beach trips, listening to music from his favorite era (the 60s), playing cards, his wife’s home cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Goodwill Athlete Association, Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Elks Lodge 378, and Williamsport Redman Lodge. He always looked forward to his weekly get-togethers at the clubs with dear pals.

Greg’s pride and joy were his twin granddaughters Peyton and Morgan. He was their biggest fan and rarely missed a swim meet, soccer or basketball game over the years. He was a steady source of laughter, encouragement, and unconditional love and he’ll be missed beyond measure.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son Ryan Brandt Young, of whom he was immensely proud.

Greg is survived by his wife and best friend of 58 years, Pam, who he lovingly referred to as “my girl”; his daughter Renee Young Weaver and her husband David, of Middletown, MD; his granddaughters Peyton Alexandra Weaver of Laguna Beach, CA and Morgan Olivia Weaver of Providence, RI. Additionally, he is survived by sister-in-law Amy Montero, her husband Fernando, and niece Francessca of Alexandria, VA; as well as several cousins.

His legacy of love, humility, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Greg would want his friends to raise a glass and smile as they remember him.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm, on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD.
