Obituary

GOLDIE GENEVIEVE MCABEE, 85, of 1676 Langley Drive, Hagerstown, Md. died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2009. Born February 18, 1924 in Clear Spring, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes Zeigler Shirk. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Robert F. "Bob" McAbee. He died July 16, 2005. Goldie was previously employed with Dorbee Manufacturing for 20 years and Potomac Center for 5 years. She was an active member of Hagerstown Suns Fan Club; Boonsboro American Legion Auxiliary; Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 1936; Women's Auxiliary to the MOC; and Conococheague Tribe #84 Red Feather Council. Goldie is survived by two daughters, Carol Corbett of Hagerstown and Donna West of Boonsboro; a son, Joseph Vance, Sr. of Hagerstown; a step-daughter, Cynthia A. Foreman of Hagerstown; and a sister, Mary Myers of Williamsport, Md.; six grandchildren, Joseph Vance, Jr., Michelle Hanna, and Stacey Gatrell, all of Hagerstown, Kris Corbett of New York, and Amanda Cordova, and Shannon Parks, both of Pearland, Texas; 1 step-grandson, Darrin Kolich of Big Pool, Maryland; 11 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Vance. A Memorial Service will be held at 700 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Steven McCarty will officiate. At Goldie's request, her body has been donated for medical research. Memorial donations may be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, Department of Neurology, 600 Wolfe Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21204 or a charity of your choice.
