Glenn Owen
Ford
Feb 4, 1950 — Jun 14, 2024
Glenn Owen Ford, known affectionately as Glenn to his friends and family, passed away on June 14, 2024, at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md, after a courageous battle with lung cancer that had metastasized to the brain. Born on February 4, 1950, in Bethesda, Md, Glenn was a man of intelligence, passion, and humor, whose presence could light up any room.
Raised by his loving parents, Pat and Bob Waltrick, who predeceased him, Glenn grew up alongside his brothers, John and Charles Waltrick. His sister-in-law Donna Waltrick, his best friend Fred Russell, and his special neighbor Kristi Mast, have been left with cherished memories of a life well-lived.
Glenn's sense of duty and patriotism was evident early on when he left school to enlist in the Navy in July 1970. He served his country with honor aboard the USS San Diego supply ship, and was honorably discharged in July 1972, having received the National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorious Medal for his service. His commitment to his community continued as he dedicated 30 years to the City of Hagerstown Water Department before retiring, a tenure marked by diligence and a strong work ethic.
Music was one of Glenn's greatest passions. He played the bass drums and sang with a contagious enthusiasm that could only be matched by his talent. Glenn was a founding member of the bands Augie and the Nightcrawlers, and Bad Risk, and also played with Sue Patrick and the Nomads. His love for music and his joy in sharing it brought a unique vibrance to the local music scene, and his performances were always eagerly anticipated events.
Those who knew Glenn would describe him as not only intelligent and funny but also as a man who lived passionately. Whether he was engaged in a spirited conversation, performing with his bandmates, or serving his community, he did so wholeheartedly and with a spark that was inherently his own.
Glenn's legacy is carried on by his brothers, John and Charles, his sister-in-law Donna, his best friend Fred, and his neighbor Kristi, all of whom will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he exemplified. His absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Glenn, we take solace in knowing that his indomitable spirit and the melodies he crafted will resonate with us forever. He was a man who made a lasting impact not only through his work but through the connections he forged and the lives he touched with his kindness and wit.
A private remembrance will be held by his family and close friends to celebrate a life that, while ended too soon, was lived to the fullest. Glenn Owen Ford's story is one of unwavering courage, boundless love for life, and an enduring legacy of joy and laughter. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
