Gladys Fitts Cody, 92, formerly of Jonesville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at her daughter's home in Boonsboro, MD.

She was born on April 2, 1931, in Lee County, VA to the late John and Mary Fitts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cody, two sons, David Reed Cody and Terry Lee Cody, and by six siblings, Vivian Moore, Elizabeth Cody, Verda Edwards, Marie Carter, Alice Fitts and Ransom Fitts.

Gladys was a homemaker, and the most wonderful Mother of 6 children. She never met a stranger, and everyone who met her enjoyed being around her. She had a way of making everyone laugh with her humor and truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was known to many as Momma Cody. She enjoyed gardening and was always up for a road trip. She especially enjoyed trips to the beach.

Gladys is survived by two sons, Charles Cody, Jr. and wife Patty of Thurmont, MD and Jonathan Cody of Boonsboro, MD; two daughters, Charlotte Grove and husband Harold (Billy) of Hagerstown, MD and Alice Cody of Boonsboro, MD; two daughters-in-law, Shelia Cody and Shannon Cody, both of Jonesville; four granddaughters, Robin Cody Hall, Hannah Cody Kinsler, Fallon Grove Crist and Tiffany Cody; one great-grandson, Riley Gray; one brother, Jack Fitts of Harpers Ferry, WV; one sister, Louise Dunn of Greeneville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. A very special niece, Connie Moore and husband Ralph, and her special grand dog, Petie.

The family would like to thank her caregiver Maddie Pedersen, who spent endless hours reminiscing, and proving the most wonderful care to her and her son, Jon. A special thank you to Tracey Elizalde, Nurse Practitioner, and her amazing staff at South Mountain Community Health. Thank you to Hospice of Washington County, who helped care for Gladys, support, and guide the family in the final days.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will follow in the Spangler-Minor Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be planned for her in Maryland at a later date.
