Heaven just got a little bit sweeter when the Lord called His precious servant, GERALD STEVEN BISHOP home. "Steve" Bishop, 53, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly at Meritus Medical Center on April 17, 2014. Born August 13, 1960 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of Rodney and Sally Bishop of State Line, PA, and Patricia White Palmer of Chambersburg, PA. Steve attended Greencastle High School and began work at Grove Manufacturing after graduation in 1978. From Grove he went on to Roxbury Correctional Institution where he worked as a correctional officer for 25 years until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple where he sang in the choir, served in the children's ministry, and helped out in many other areas whenever asked. Steve enjoyed reading his Bible, hunting, camping, playing softball and spending time with his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his willingness to help people in any way he could, his unique sense of humor and making others smile, and above all his steadfast faith in the Lord. Steve was preceded in death by his first wife, Carrie Shoemaker Bishop in 2007. In addition to his parents, Steve is survived by his wife, Judie Bishop; two sons, Jonathan Bishop and his wife, Sarah of Hagerstown, MD, and Joshua Bishop and his wife, Jessica of Mililani, HI; two brothers, Dean Bishop and Brian Bishop and wife, Betty all of Greencastle, PA; three sisters, Diana Schuchman and husband, Bill, and Dana Szaflarski and husband, Joe all of Greencastle, PA, and Tonyia Eichelberger and husband, Chris of Chambersburg, PA; four grandsons, Landon, Caleb, and Taylor Bishop, and Caleb Randles; and four granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Kendal, and Raven Lowry and Madison Randles; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Temple, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Curtis King will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, c/o Neurological Center, 1800 Orleans Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21287.
