Obituary

GEORGE TILGHMAN (JACK) BOWARD, 80, of Clear Spring, Maryland, died Friday at Golden Living Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. Born August 24, 1932, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Guy C. Boward and Dorotha J. Spickler Boward. Jack was a 1950 graduate of Clear Spring High School. He graduated from Columbia Business College and also attended Oklahoma State University. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953, during the Korean War. He retired from Lonestar Cement as maintenance supervisor after forty-five years of service. He was a member for over sixty years at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clear Spring and served in many capacities at the church. He was an avid Redskins fan for over seventy years and a season ticket holder for fifty years. He was a fifty year member of the Medairy Lodge #140 A.F. &A.M. in Williamsport and a fifty year member Scottish Rite of Free Masonry (Valley Orient of Maryland). He was a member of Ali Ghan of Cumberland, Hagerstown Shrine Club, Sayara Unit, Royal Order of the Jesters Cumberland Court 117, Masonic Veteran Associate of Maryland, Kentucky Colonels Club of Western, MD, B.P.O. Order of the Elks Lodge 378, and Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peg) Boward; a brother, Donald L. Boward and wife, Kay of Greencastle, PA; seven nieces and one nephew; several great nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 211 E. Cumberland Street, Clear Spring, MD. The Rev. Charles M. Mackley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring, The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, General Fund.
