Obituary

GEORGE RICHARD BARTLES, 82, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Golden Living Center. Born March 12, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Herman S. and Mary Catherine Hamby Bartles. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Bartles. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War, serving in the U. S. Army. He was employed by the Department of Correction, California for twenty and one-half years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Funkstown American Legion Post 211, a life member of VFW 1936 and Good Sam's Club. He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Bartles; one stepdaughter, Kathleen Lockart of Camas, Washington; one stepson, Dan Moss of Camas, Washington; two brothers, Herman M. Bartles of Boonsboro, Maryland, and Robert Bartles of Hagerstown; five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Bartles, Raymond Bartles, and Ralph Bartles. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland. Chaplain Bob Lloyd will officiate. Family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p. m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.
