Obituary

Gayle Heiks, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at the age of 86, in Hagerstown, MD. Born on October 1, 1937, in Parma, OH, Gayle's life was a testament to the values she held dear — family, faith, and the joy found in simple pleasures.

As the matriarch of a large and close-knit family, Gayle cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 50 years, Richard Heiks, with whom she built a life filled with love and shared purpose. Their legacy lives on through their children, Wendy Mertz (Donald), Scott Heiks (Carolyn), and Michael Heiks (Song Hye); their adored grandchildren, Eric Roth (Selena), Samantha Albright (Mark), Emily Tomlinson (Kevin), Benjamin Mertz (Caitlin), Nicholas Mertz, Sean Mertz (Mia), Patrick Mertz (Kristen), Sarah Mertz, and Rachel Miller; and their cherished great-grandchildren, Jillian, Luke, Natalie, Elijah, Aubree, Jolie, Aiden, and Aria. The family also holds dear the memory of their deceased grandson, Justin Mertz.

Gayle's passion for life was evident in her unwavering commitment to her faith. She shared the love and teachings of Jesus with everyone she encountered, her life a beautiful reflection of her beliefs. A lover of golden retrievers, Gayle's fond companionship with her pet Romeo brought her immense joy.

To know Gayle was to experience the warmth of her loving nature and steadfast faith. Her spirit, a guiding light to all who knew her, will be profoundly missed but eternally cherished.
