Gary Lee Leggett, Sr., 75, of Sharpsburg, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Sterling Care South Mountain in Boonsboro, MD.

Born September 3, 1947 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Red and Pearl (McCauley) Leggett.

Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, but never left the states.

Gary worked at East Alco for 35 years.

Over the years, he loved fishing for salmon and walleye on the family fall fishing trip to Michigan and hunting for that big buck that was way above the ears. He enjoyed gathering treasures on his weekly metal and garbage run. Most recently, he enjoyed listening to Brother Joey play "Wipe Out" on his drums with the Cruisers Band.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Sandra "Sandy" Leggett.

He is survived by his son, Gary Leggett, Jr.; daughter, Sheri Leggett (James Stevens); one grandchild, Glenn Myers, Jr. (Anna); brothers, Willis (MaryAnn), Lonnie (Karen), Joseph (Christi), Jeff (Krista), and Donnie (Cheryl); his sister, Debbie (Joe Bennaka); his sister-in-law, Cheryl Henry (Ronnie); brother-in-law, Elton Reed (Patty); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Elton Leggett.

The funeral will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Robert Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #10 of Boonsboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 6-8pm.
