Franklin Pierce Erck, III, 81, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center. Born March 1, 1935 in Youngstown, OH, he was the son of the late Franklin P. Erck, Jr. and Grace V. (Smith) Erck. Frank was employed with YMCAs in Ohio and Maryland for 26 years. While he was the Executive Director of the YMCA in Hagerstown, he started the YMCAs Car Raffle Fundraiser, local chapter of the IMC and founded the True Grit Scholarship Program. After leaving the YMCA, he was employed with Home Federal for 18 years. Frank was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and previous member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown, serving as both deacon and elder. He was also a community service leader as a member of the Rotary and Rotary Foundation, serving as President, HCC Athletics Booster Club, serving as President, HCC Sports Hall of Fame, Hagerstown Community Concert Association, serving as Board Chair, San Mar Children's Home Board of Directors, serving as Board Chair, Home Builders Association, Economic Development Commission, Excise Tax Task Force, Red Cross Board, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Charter/Life member of Ohio Lodge of Research Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, and served on the Board of Advisors with University System of Maryland at Hagerstown and assisted with the scholarship activities. Frank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol J. Erck; two daughters, Andrea Erck of Youngstown, OH, and Jennifer Finn of Hagerstown, MD; three sons, Casey Letizia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, David Erck of Youngstown, OH, and Franklin P. Erck, IV of Portland, OR; one sister, Anne Edwards of Oakland, CA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be held 10:32am Monday, October 3, 2016 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD. Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 4 to 7pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will open at 12pm.
