Obituary

Frank Wilbert Nield, Jr., 95, of Williamsport, MD, passed away peacefully with his daughters, son and son in law by his side, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born August 14, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank Wilbert Nield, Sr. and Margaret Ann (Heim) Nield.

Frank was a retired correctional officer with MCI and owner of Frank Nield's Water Service, Inc. Frank wore many hats over the years starting with his father's shoe shop on Chestnut St., delivery and sales for the Superior Dairy, and Martha Janes Beauty Shop which was owned by his wife. Frank also had his cosmetologist license.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Frank was the last chartered member of St. Andrews UMC that began on Chestnut St.; Masonic Lodge #84, Elks Lodge #378, and American Legion #211.

He is survived by two daughters, Saraha E. Weitzman, of Beckley, WV and Catherine A. (Thomas) Cordas, of Wapakoneta, OH; one son, B. Franklin Shupp, of Spirit Lake, ID; two grandchildren, Ashlee (Brian) McMillan and Joshua Weitzman; and two great grandchildren, Connor and Macy McMillan. Also leaving behind, Gina Oreamuno Lowry, whom he considered a daughter and Betty Jones, a companion and member of St. Andrews UMC.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Martha Jane Beyard Nield, on June 30, 1991; one son, Frank W. Nield, III; four sisters, Catherine Rowe, Anna Grace Wilson, Jennie Shaffer, and Margaret Myers; and one brother, Arthur J. Nield.

Services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Christopher Serufusa officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors provided by the Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30am-1:00pm on Wednesday prior to services.
