Obituary

Francis "Fritz" Clair Carbaugh, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Mitchell and Margaret Elizabeth Carbaugh, and a son, Clair Eugene Carbaugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Helen Jean Sowers Carbaugh of Hagerstown, MD, and his daughter, Ann Margaret Carbaugh of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by two brothers, C. Lanny Carbaugh and his wife, Mary Jane, of Greencastle, PA, and Daniel D. Carbaugh and his wife, Pom, of Ft. Myers, FL. He left behind five grandchildren, Eugene Carbaugh, Jr., of Waynesboro, PA, Joshua Carbaugh of Williamsport, MD, Jeremiah Carbaugh of Hagerstown, MD, Krista Carbaugh of Hagerstown, MD, and Jennifer Barnhart of Myrtle Beach, SC; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline, Emma. He was a 1958 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School and excelled in high school sports. After graduation, he served as a Corporal with the U.S. Marines until 1964. He served as a Conflict Vet for Cuba, Quemoy and Matsu Islands. He retired from Pangborn Corporation in 2000 after 37 years of service. Fitz was an avid outdoorsman and a longstanding member of the Shady Grove Hunting Club. He was Past Commander and lifetime member of the Waynesboro VFW Post #695, the Orbisonia American Legion Post #518, Hagerstown AMVETS Post #10, Hagerstown BPOE #378, Waynesboro Owls Club, Past Master Hagerstown Masonic Lodge Friendship #84, and Hagerstown Goodwill Athletic Association. He was of the Protestant faith. A special thank you to the medical staff at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. The funeral service will be held 1pm on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Linda Allessandri of Haven Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are required.
