FRANCES ISOBEL (BETTY) MONGAN, 86, of 7 West Green Street, Funkstown, Maryland, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her home. Born November 7, 1924 in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Dwight and Mildred Walker Beatty. She was employed with the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service for fifteen years, retiring in 1985, and was previously employed with Washington County Board of Education. Betty was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown and a member of the Lutheran Church Women. She was a life member of the Maryland Congress of PTA'S, a member of the Funkstown Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the Women's Auxiliary American Legion Dixon Troxel Post 211, the Washington County Church Women United, the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, the Hagerstown Power Squadron, and a member and president of the Funkstown Senior Citizens. Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gail A. Mongan; one daughter, Linda Harbaugh of Reisterstown, MD; one son, David Mongan of Reisterstown, MD; one sister, Helen Etter of Greencastle, PA; one granddaughter, Alicia Mongan of Baltimore, MD; three grandsons, Kevin Harbaugh and Matthew Mongan both of Hampstead, Md; and Kyle Harbaugh of Baltimore, MD; two great-granddaughters, Jordan Harbaugh and Summer Fulton of Hampstead, MD; three great-grandsons, William Harbaugh, Miles Mongan and Marcus Mongan all of Hampstead; nieces and nephews, and three great-great nephews, Austin, Trey and Killian. Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Beatty. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 East Baltimore Street, Funkstown, MD. The Rev. Michael K. Louia will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
