Obituary


Eloaise Mae “Lois” Arnold passed away peacefully at Doey’s House, Hagerstown, Maryland, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. She is with her Lord and Savior.

She was born in Williamsport, MD on July 22, 1932, the daughter of Harlan Thumb Rider and Lula Anna Gruber Rider. She was the 9th of 10 children and was preceded in death by all her siblings and by her husband of 64 years, Richard S. Arnold.

She recently celebrated her 94th birthday.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Spruce Street in Hagerstown and later Cornerstone Community Church in Beaver Creek.

She worked at the Hagerstown Bottling Works Plant and the Court Waffle Shop restaurant in downtown Hagerstown. She did housekeeping work while raising her children. Later she worked on a cleaning crew for new construction with a sister and brother-in-law in Northern Virginia.

She had very fond memories of roller skating and square dancing in her youth. Later, she was an active member with two of her sisters on the Woodpoint Grill Team of the Hagerstown Turf Bowling League at Pangborn Park with her team winning club championship. She also league bowled with her sisters and friends at Turner’s Dual Lanes for many years.

In retirement, she continued her twice yearly visits to Hatteras Island with her sisters which led to continued yearly trips to Hatteras with her immediate family.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela S. Arnold, and son, Gerald L. Arnold, both of Hagerstown; daughter, Patricia C. Hills and her husband, John Hills of Waynesboro, PA; Grandchildren Sarah E. Brooks and husband Michael J. Brooks of Waynesboro; Michael J. Hills of Waynesboro; D,J. Hills of Philadelphia, PA; Jay H. Hills and Rachel A. Hills both of Waynesboro; Great granddaughters, Breanna P Robinson of Chambersburg, Mikah R. Brooks and Eliza M. Brooks of Waynesboro.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home located at 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, MD. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m.
