ELMER RICHARD SMITH, 91, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Meritus Medical Center. Born November 4, 1920, in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Daniel Edward and Daisy Ellen Forrest Smith. He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42, and Greencastle Sportsman's Club. He loved to hunt and fish, and loved to tinker and was able to fix anything. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Colleen Smith; one son, Marvin R. "Buck" Smith, and wife, Carolyn, of Hagerstown; one grandson, Tyson J. Smith, and wife, Joyce, of Hagerstown; stepgrandson, Tim Barnes of State Line, Pennsylvania; stepgreat-grandsons, Robert Barnes, Jeffrey Barnes, Joseph Wolfe, and Blake Vanes; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a. m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Eric Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Washington County Amvets Post #10 and Marine Corp League of Hagerstown.
