Elmer Ellsworth Long, Jr., 87, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Doey's House.

Born March 12, 1936, in Boonsboro, MD, he was the son of the late Freda Mildred (Roser) and Elmer Ellsworth Long, Sr.

He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Grove Manufacturing. He was a member of People's Gospel Tabernacle. He loved to garden.

Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Long; daughter Kathy Marie Shirley; and granddaughter, Bobbi Renee Snyder.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Funkhouser (husband, Scott), Freda Fitzpatrick (husband, Tom), and Eva Ramos (husband, Jose); two sons, John Long (wife, Janet), and Dillon Shirley (wife, Susan); four grandchildren, Angela Miles (husband, Tim), Jessica Long (significant other, Marvin), Joshua Ramos (significant other, Karien), and Jacob Ramos (significant other, Autumn); two sisters; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 6pm with Chaplain Duane Musgrove officiating.
