Obituary

ELMER LEE "Hezzie" HUTZELL, 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home. Born February 20, 1926, in Fairplay, MD, he was the son of the late Edward and Myrtle Amelia Hutzell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Rita Dolores Clark Hutzell on May 19, 2011 and by his son, Daniel Lee Hutzell on September 21, 2011. A veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Army in Okinawa, Hezzie was proud to be a sixty-three year member of Dixon Troxell American Legion Funkstown Post 211. He retired from Peoples Drug Store after twenty-seven years and Maryland Correctional Training Center after fourteen years. Hezzie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for seventy years. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Kathleen M. Hutzell of Westminster, MD; brother-in-law, J. Thomas Clark of California; grandson, Sean Francis Hutzell of Annapolis, MD; friend and companion, Richard Lee "Spanky" Churchey; and nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 West Washington Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the mass at the church. Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
