Elizabeth "Liz" Charlotte (Korber) Knepper went home to her heavenly father on August 17, 2021. Liz was born on December 2, 1934, in University Park, Hyattsville, Maryland, to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Paul and Barbara Korber, of College Park, Maryland. Liz's father was a woodworker craftsman who immigrated from Switzerland, and her mother was a cook who immigrated from Bavaria. Barbara cooked at an embassy in Washington, DC, where she met Otto when he delivered furniture to the embassy. Barbara's sister, Christine and her husband, also immigrated to the U.S., and owned the Swiss Cottage, on Rt. 11 west of Hagerstown. Liz and met William (Bill) Edward Knepper at the Swiss Cottage, and on April 14, 1956. Liz and Bill married at the Riverdale Presbyterian Church in University Park, Maryland, and they made their home in Hagerstown, Maryland, raising two girls, Holly and Julie. Liz graduated from the Washington D.C. School For Secretaries in 1953. She held secretarial positions at the National Canners Association, Fairchild Engine & Airplane Corporation, Herald-Mail Corporation, Fairchild Republic Company, and the Office of the Washington County State's Attorney, from which she retired in 1995. She was kind, generous, and had a wicked sense of humor. She excelled at needlework, particularly counted cross-stitch, and was an avid gardener who had an amazing green thumb. She enjoyed completing the Sunday New York Times crossword, travelling, exercising, attending concerts and plays, and taking long adventurous drives through the countryside. Her survivors are: daughter, Holly Knepper Citko and son in-law Stanley Martin (Marty) Citko, Jr. of Halethorpe, Maryland; son-in-law, Timothy Markle, of Hagerstown; brother, Otto Paul Korber and his wife Susie, of Fenton, Michigan; and nephew, Paul Korber and his wife. Bill predeceased Liz on January 13, 2013. On May 6, 2021, the Earth lost an angel when Liz and Bill's beautiful 59-year-old daughter, Julie Ann Markle, passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer. Liz's sister, Olga K. Cable, also predeceased Liz. Liz has been blessed by many precious friends and neighbors who made her life so special. Oakiee L. McKee has been Liz's dear friend and companion in her later years, and shared love, laughter, and adventure. The funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Rev. J. W.
