EDWARD WILLIAM JOHN HARRIS, 88, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Monday, August 17, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 6, 1926 in Crediton, Devonshire, England he was the son of the late Frederick John and Maude Ellen Tarr Harris. Edward enlisted in the British Army in 1942 serving 10 years. He retired from Harris, Smariga and Associates Inc. in 1984 and was a MD, WV, and VA Registered Surveyor. Edward was a former member of the Maryland Society of Surveyors, American Congress of Surveying and Mapping and the Faculty of Architects and Surveyors of London, England. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan Mary Harris; two daughters, Janice H. Rennels of Hagerstown, MD, and Devina L. Thompson of Hagerstown, MD; sons-in-law James Riffle and J. Todd Kennedy; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Jacqueline S. Riffle; and one sister. Services will be held 2 pm Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Bill Divelbiss will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21092.
