Obituary

Edgar Allen Woods, 86, a resident of Commonwealth Senior Living in Hagerstown, MD, and formerly of Thurmont, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Born April 26, 1937, in Magnolia, WV, he was the son of the late William H. and Susie Louise (Spring) Woods.

He was a 1955 graduate of Paw Paw, WV, and a member of Weller United Methodist Church in Thurmont, MD. He retired in 1997 as Director of Environmental Health with the State of MD, in Frederick, MD. He was a graduate of U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, Russian Language Course at Syracuse University; he serviced in the U.S. Air Force in 1956-1959 and was a Russian Linguist in the Far East from 1957 to 1960. He carried a very high level of security clearance and served as an intelligence Analyst in the Far East; and received an Honorable Discharge. He graduated from Frostburg State University with a B.A. in 1964 and M.S.M (Management) in 1976.

He was a Civil Air Patrol with the (U.S. Air Force Auxiliary) Maryland Wing; with the Cumberland Composite Squadron, he served as Safety Officer and Commander. He was a senior Pilot with Search and Rescue, Forest Fire, and on Chesapeake Bay Patrol Mission. He was an avid flyer.

Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Iris (Godlove) Woods; two brothers, William R. Woods and Loren Harvey Woods; and a sister, Sandra L. Woods.

He is survived by two sons, Eric A. Woods and Troy L. Woods and wife, Brenda L. Woods; five grandchildren, Gabriella Woods, Lucilla Woods, Elijah Woods, Tiffany Bond and Cassandra Heyer; two great grandsons, Everett Bond and Wyatt Bond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in the chapel with military honors to follow service, 14205 Pleasant Valley Road, NE, Flintstone, MD 21530.
