Duean Martin Stiles, 57, of Fairplay, MD, formerly of Damascus, MD, died peacefully with his family by his side on May 8, 2023.
Born October 7, 1965, in Olney, MD, the son of F. Martin and Geraldine (Johnson) Stiles, Duean was raised on the family farm. He was a member of 4-H and FFA, showing cattle at the local, state, and national levels. He participated in FFA dairy cattle judging, traveling to the national competition in Massachusetts. His 4-H accomplishments resulted in his induction to the Maryland 4-H All-Stars. Throughout his life, he enjoyed being a volunteer, teacher, and mentor to many 4-H youths. He also enjoyed attending local fairs, community shows, and agricultural events.
Duean graduated from Damascus High School in 1984. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church in Damascus and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport, serving on the Call Committee and the Mutual Ministry Committee.
Duean was a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, the Maryland Jersey Cattle Club Association, and the Maryland-Delaware Ayrshire Association.
On July 8, 2001, Duean married Dawn M. Downey. They have three children: Emily, Brandon, and Luke. The farming lifestyle was an important part of Duean's life, and he enjoyed raising his children on his in-laws' dairy farm.
He was employed by Comsat, Gladhill Brothers, and Montgomery County Public Schools, serving in the maintenance department for 29 years.Duean loved life and enjoyed relationships with friends past and present. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was immensely proud of his children.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dawn D. Stiles, and his children: Emily, Brandon and Luke; his brothers, Kevin L. Stiles, of Hyndman, PA, and nephew Kip, and Kris Stiles, of Damascus, and niece Kristin and nephew Sully Kavanaugh; his sister, Amy M. Lawrence and her husband Sean of Damascus, and nephew and niece John D. and Elizabeth; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank C. and Carolyn T. Downey of Williamsport; his brothers-in-law and their families, including nieces and nephews: Kirk C. and Eileen L. Downey, of Hagerstown, and Erin; Ryan L. and Jennifer M. Downey, of Williamsport, and Jack; and Wade F. and Britni N. Downey, of Hagerstown, and Savannah and Presley. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown, MD, Monday, May 15, 2023 from 2–4 pm and 7–9 pm, and on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 10–11am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, MD. Funeral services will begin at 11am Tuesday at the church. Interment will be immediately thereafter at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD.
