DOUGLAS DAVID HAYES, 53, of 19621 Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005. Born January 26, 1952 in Fiddlersburg, Maryland, he was the only son of the late Thomas William and Madeline Cornelia Hatfield Hayes. He graduated in 1970 from North Hagerstown High School. He was formerly employed by Shank Farms Inc., Resley Tire, Keefers Gulf, Pangborn Corporation, and Landis Tool. He was an avid animal lover and a very caring person to everyone. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1191 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, the Eagles Club, Inc. of Waynesboro, the Owls Club Inc. of Waynesboro, and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by two sisters, Emma Chaney and husband Leroy, and Joan Hurd, both of Hagerstown; two nephews, Troy L. Chaney, Sr., and Dale Hurd; one great-niece, Alison Nuckels, three great-nephews, Troy Lee Chaney, Jr., Brett Chaney, and Derek Chaney; a very special caregiver, Karen Nicol and her family, and a friend, Daniel Ebersole, Jr. He was preceded in death by one niece, Shelly Hurd Nuckels. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday at the MINNICH FUNERAL HOME, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p. m.
