DOROTHY JEAN KARPER, 91, formerly of 914 Guilford Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, and a resident of Ravenwood Nursing Home, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. Born December 28, 1919 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late C. Sharpe and Nora Deardorff Karper. She was employed by the Washington County Department of Social Services for forty-two years, retiring in 1980. She was of the catholic faith. She was a member of A.A.R.P., the Sodality, the Catholic Daughters, the Catholic Golden Age; the Hagerstown Women's Democratic Organization for which she was treasurer for many years; former member of BPW Club, having belonged to the club for over thirty years. In her early years, she belonged to various choral groups and did solo work in different churches. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sharpe D. Karper in 1983. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a. m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
