DONALD RAY "DON" THAYER, JR., 74, of 111 Linden Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Reeder Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland. Born October 16, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Harriette Coryell Thayer Kulp of Hagerstown, and the late Donald R. Thayer, Sr. He was a twenty year veteran of U. S. Air Force, serving in the Viet Nam War. After the Air Force, he was a projectionist for local movie theaters in Marysville, California. He did construction work in Marysville County and Baltimore, Maryland. He was employed with Rust-oleum for fourteen years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Cumberland Valley Country Western Dance Association. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Anne Elizabeth Watkins Thayer of eighteen years; two daughters, Monika Sokoloski of Pacifica, California, and Irene Davis of Marysville, California; two sons, Theodor Thayer, and David Thayer, both of Marysville, California; step-daughters, Rhonda Richards of Rockville, Maryland, and Susannah Hoffman of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; one step-son, Elliot Richards of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Kathaleen Stultz, and Deborah Musselwhite, both of Hagerstown, and Beth-Ann Livney of Redding, California; one brother, James Thayer of Chicago, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one step-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Thayer; step-mother, Ruth Thayer; and step-father, Lemuel Kulp. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Eric Norgard will officiate. Graveside military honors will be conducted. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Friday from 6 to 8 p. m. and one-half hour prior to the service at the church.
