Donald Lee Rector, age 86 of Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 8, 2025 at Doey's House, with his family by his side.
Born September 22, 1938, in Hancock Maryland, he was the son of the late Lawrence Wade and Maria Elizabeth (Wink) Woolford. He grew up in Hancock, Maryland. After graduating high school in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a PFC and a member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. While in the Army he met and married Neshia Ruth (Flowers) Rector in 1958.
After leaving the Army, they moved back to Maryland to start their life together. In his early years he worked at Pittman's Grocery in Hancock. He then worked at Potomac Farms Dairy in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. He finished his working career at East Alcoa Aluminum in Buckeystown, Maryland, with 30 plus years, retiring in 2004.
He loved to hunt, and fish and was a member of Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club in Hancock for decades.
He was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lori Leigh Rector, and his wife of 65 years, Neshia Ruth Rector.
Together they had a son, Rodney W. Rector (Lucinda), a daughter Sherrie L. Heller (Ira), and 4 grandchildren, Zachary R. Rector (Jessica), Ashley L. Neville (Bubba), Megan E. Miller (Josh), and Eric A. Heller. He had 6 great grandchildren, Ryan N. Neville, Eli M. Neville, Cody R. Rector, Jacob R. Rector, Kyliann J. Neville and Zane G. Miller.
There will be a celebration of life service at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 22 Cumberland Street, Clear Spring, Maryland, on September20, 2025 at 1:00pm. Fellowship will follow the service in Perry Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
