Obituary

Donald Oliver Kreis, known affectionately as Don, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, in Hagerstown, MD, surrounded by the love of his family and his devoted companion, ISO. Born on March 12, 1951, in Williston, ND, Don's journey through life was marked by dedication, intelligence, and a deep capacity for love. His 73 years on this earth were lived with purpose and joy, leaving a legacy of warmth and wisdom.

Don was a man of many accomplishments, but the heart of his world was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Kimberly A. Kreis, who brought him immeasurable happiness. Together, they built a life full of laughter and shared interests. Don was a loving stepfather to John A. Moore and Thomas "TJ" Moore, cherishing the moments he spent with them and their children. Don also leaves behind a caring sister-in-law, Janice M. Willis, brother-in-law, Samuel W. Phillips and a supportive sister-in-law, Jennifer L. Phillips-Davis, her husband Bryan Davis along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Don is the eldest of 10 children. He is survived by all of his siblings, David Kreis, Thomas Kreis, Penelope Kreis, Sharon Tripp, Deborah Walsh, Patricia Jorgenson, Judith Spaulding, Daniel Kreis and Sandra Vigars and many nieces and nephews scattered across the United States. He was predeceased by his parents, Lora J. Haney Kreis and Harold G. Kreis, whose memories he held close to his heart.

Don's military service was a significant chapter in his life, having served his country with distinction. He earned his GED through the United States Armed Forces Institute and was awarded two Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, and was recognized as an Expert with the M16 rifle. His military training was comprehensive, equipping him with skills that he carried into civilian life. Don's commitment to excellence was exemplified by his honorable discharge in 1978.

Following his service, he lived and worked in Montana until heading to Maryland. Don joined Jamison Door Company, where he dedicated several decades of service before retiring on June 30, 2024. His analytical mind and attention to detail made him a valued team member and a respected figure in his field.

Don's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He loved traveling and camping, finding joy in the beauty of nature and the thrill of exploration. His fascination with computers began early, and he was a guiding force in the mIRC community, where he met his wife through her sister, Janice.

Those who knew Don would describe him as analytical, intelligent, and loving. His analytical mind solved problems both at work and at home, his intelligence was a beacon for those seeking knowledge, and his loving nature created a haven for his family.

As Albert Einstein once said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile." Don embodied this philosophy through his actions and the way he lived his life. He was always there for others, offering advice, support, and his unwavering presence.

In his final days, Don was cared for by his wife, Stepson TJ and hospice, who provided him with the most compassionate care. His wife, Kimberly, stepson TJ, and his fiercely protective companion ISO were by his side, providing comfort and love until his very last breath.

Donald Oliver Kreis leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit, characterized by dedication, intelligence, and love, will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. As we bid farewell to Don, we celebrate the remarkable man he was and the indelible impact he made on the lives of so many.
