Donald Sanford Hartman, 78, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Born August 23, 1938 in Somerset, PA, he was the son of the late William and Regina (Shrout) Hartman. Donald was employed with Mack Truck for 35 years. He was a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, NRA, and a leader in Boys Bergade, Western MD Sportsman Club, and UAW of Maugansville Local 171. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, the Pittsburg Steelers, and his dog Benji, who was his companion and best friend. Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Catherine Hartman; two sons, Don Hartman and wife, Tina, and Dave Hartman and companion, Bobbi Whetzel, all of Hedgesville, WV; two granddaughters, Lauren Kramer of AL, and Hannah Hartman of Boonsboro, MD; one sister, Barbara Friend of Oakland, MD; and one brother, Billy Hartman of WY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Rounds, Gladine Smith, and Mary Violet Charlton. A service will be held 1pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Len Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2 hours prior to the service.
