Donald Monroe Hamberger Sr, 91, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023.
Born March 28, 1932 in York, PA, he was the son of the late George John Hamberger and the late Ella Elizabeth [Ilyes] Hamberger. Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty.
Donald devoted his life to his family and nurtured a deep sense of love and trust with constant words of wisdom from the 'Old Prophet'. He modeled a life of servant leadership and instilled the value of lifelong learning and sharing. Donald spent over 25 years serving others; our country as a member of the US Army, and our community as a member of the Hagerstown Police Force. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Thomas Pangborn Lodge #88. Donald continued serving the community as a 7-Eleven Franchisee before retiring and dedicating more of his time to volunteering and caring for others. Donald was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Hagerstown serving in various roles and on numerous committees and played an integral role in the planning and development of the Aspiring to Serve Community Center. Donald was very active in his community, Summerland Manor, including serving on the Board of Directors and other committees for many years.
Donald is survived by his daughter Beth Ann Clipp and her husband Ronald of Williamsport, MD; son Donald Monroe Hamberger, Jr. and his wife Debra of Hagerstown, MD; and son Brian Eugene Hamberger and his wife Aney of Falling Waters, WV; and his sister Mildred Eckert of York, PA.
Donald is also survived by his loving family of 7 grandchildren, Sandy, Tim, Bonnie, Bailey, Darin, Devin, and Douglas; 11 great grandchildren, Katie, Micah, Kayla, Andrew, Athena, Jude, Logan, Daxton, Cooper, Breker, and Owen; and 1 great-great grandchild, Chloe.
A 'Celebration of Life' for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Summerland Community Center, 929 Security Road, Unit # 190, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
Donald epitomized the Aspiring to Serve Vision of being a leader in facilitating community service to those in need and would wish that donations be made in his memory to Aspiring to Serve, Inc., 140 West Franklin Street, Suite #600, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
