Diane Eloise (Heberling) Weaver, 81, of Hagerstown, Maryland died on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Diane was born in Williamsport, PA and spent her early life in Albuquerque, NM and Los Angeles, CA. She was the daughter of James Heberling and Marion London Heberling.
She attended the University of California, Los Angeles and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland from which she also earned her doctorate in history. Diane's career began with the Peace Corps in Grenada, WI in 1967 followed by teaching at the Maryland Correctional Institution at Hagerstown and as faculty at Frederick and Hagerstown Community Colleges. She later worked with the Division of Career and College Readiness at the Maryland State Department of Education. Diane returned to Hagerstown Community College in 2001 where she worked until her retirement in a variety of roles including program officer, professor, researcher, grant writer, and academic officer.
Diane had a special interest in women's history, especially the role of Maryland women in the women's suffrage movement. She was a member of the MD commission of Women and was a founding member of CASA, Washington County. A crowning achievement of Diane's career was her authorship of The Community's College: The Remarkable Journey of Hagerstown Community College, 1946-2012.
Always witty and with a keen sense of humor, Diane enjoyed vacationing in Kiawah, SC, lunching with friends, and staying connected with family, friends, and colleagues. Anyone who knew Diane would also have known Milo, the parrot, who was part of the family for 50 years.
Diane is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Weaver, whom she met in the peace Corps. Other survivors include her sister, Suzette Weber and nephew, Michael Webermann. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Laura Geyer and husband, Robert.
In accordance with Diane's wishes, there will be no funeral. Donations in Diane's name can be made to the Hagerstown Community College Foundation.
