Obituary

Dean Franklin Stenger, 92, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026.  Born April 2, 1933, in Shady Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Chester A. and Hilda V. (Stine) Stenger.

Dean graduated from Greencastle High School in 1951 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later umpired games throughout the area, and spent many years welcoming families as a greeter at Minnich Funeral Home. He found great joy in sitting on his front porch, watching football and baseball games, and was a devoted, longtime fan of the Washington Redskins.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Griffith) Stenger; loving daughter and caregiver Amy Dean Stenger; and his sister, Doris Coffman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Max Stenger and Wayne Stenger.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD. Pastor Rani Woodrow will officiate.
