Obituary

David Carl McLaughlin, 77, of Hagerstown, MD, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home under Hospice care. Born August 4, 1938 in the Town of Sullivan, Madison County, NY, he was the son of the late Edward Harvey McLaughlin and Patricia Beatrice (Smith) McLaughlin. He married Kathleen Frances O'Connor on July 23, 1960 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD. David retired August 4, 1993 from the Architect of the Capitol, Rayburn House Office Building, as General Foreman of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1964. He was stationed in Japan and at the Air Service, Quantico, VA. He was a member of the American Legion in Funkstown, MD. For years, he enjoyed bowling and cross word puzzles, and of course, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His oldest grandson, Kyle Nicolas McLaughlin, graduated from VA Tech this year on December 18. Surviving family, in addition to his wife are his four children, Daniel J. McLaughlin and wife, Sara, of Hagerstown, MD, Ellen V. Angel and husband, Jack, of Westminster, MD, Patrick D. McLaughlin and wife, Alexis, of Lovettsville, VA, and Michael E. McLaughlin and wife, Magdi, of Monrovia, MD; nine grandchildren, Amy Lay and husband, Steven, Sofia and Matthew McLaughlin, Tara Gonzalez and husband, George, Kyle, Sierra, Indigo, and Isabel McLaughlin, and Joshua McLaughlin; eight great grandchildren, Elijah, Jeremiah, Julian, Alexandro, and Olivia Gonzalez, Devin, Aiden and Braden Lay, with another one due in March; three brothers, James E. McLaughlin, Robert J. McLaughlin and wife, Marilyn, and Timothy A. McLaughlin; one sister, Marilyn Helmer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Y. McLaughlin; two sisters, Suzanne C. Beaudet and Juanita Burke Bozeat; and three brothers-in-law, Guy J. Beaudet, David Helmer, and George Bozeat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am, Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, MD. Rev. Collin Poston and Rev. John Jicha will concelebrate. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corp League of Hagerstown.
