David Lee
Dorsey
Jan 12, 1931 — Mar 25, 2026
David Lee Dorsey, 95, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.
Born January 12, 1931, in Williamsport, MD, he was the son of the late Russell and Marguerite (Clem) Dorsey.
Dave graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1949 and joined the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Misawa AB, Japan, as an Air Traffic Controller during the Korean War. While in Japan, he met the love of his life and future wife, Yukiko (Sue).
Dave was employed with the Federal Aviation Agency as an Air Traffic Controller and later worked in flight service in Martinsburg, WV. Dave had a distinctive voice and was known as "The Golden Voice." He also served with the 167th Air National Guard, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was passionate about his work as a loadmaster on the C-121 Constellation and the C-130 Hercules. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
In retirement, Dave and his wife, Sue, were devoted volunteers at the ARCC at Hagerstown Community College. They gave countless hours working at the Boosters Snack Bar and at sporting events. They were honored with numerous awards, including the People's Choice Award, and were inducted into the HCC Sports Hall of Fame.
In his later years, Dave enjoyed spending time with his son-in-law, Bob, and grandson, Derek, sharing a cigar and his Air Force stories. One of his proudest moments was participating in his grandson's promotion to Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, by pinning the eagles on his shoulder.
Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Sue, who passed on March 4, 2026. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Earl Brakenwagen.
He is survived by his daughters, Sukey Rankin and her husband, Bob, and Janet Brakenwagen and her fur baby, Aijou; his grandson, Colonel Derek Rankin and his wife, Lesley; and great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Brooks Rankin.
Dave's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the VA Community Living Center Hospice Unit for the exceptional care they provided.
