David Eron Appenzellar, 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Doey's House. Born December 4, 1926, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Nellie May (Henneberger) Appenzellar.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Sydney E. Appenzellar, who passed away April 23, 2022.

David was a World War II veteran, serving in the US Army in the Philippines.

He previously worked for the Western Maryland Railway, Fairchild Aviation, and was employed with Mack Trucks for 28 years, retiring in 1990.

David was an active member for many years at Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown and enjoyed leading and singing classic hymns. He was also a member of American Legion Post #202 in Williamsport.

David is survived by his two sons, Wayne Appenzellar of Martinsburg; Mark Appenzellar and wife Alison of Smithsburg; two step-grandchildren, Jordan Gibson and Emily Gibson-Brobst; one step-great-grandchild, Evelyn Gibson; and special nephews Milford Jones (Yu) and Leonard Jones (Debbie).

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Carol J. Appenzellar; brothers, Harry, William, Robert, Merle, and Edwin Appenzellar; and sisters, Julia Thompson, Betty Brierly, and Gladys Osborne.

The funeral will be held at 1pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Rodney Nave will officiate. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County.
