Dalton Edwin Barkman, 92, of Smithsburg, MD, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024.  Born July 10, 1931 in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Stanley and Grace (Warbel) Barkman.

He was a 1950 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, and afterwards attended Hagerstown Junior College. He then enlisted and served four years in the US Navy during the Korean War with the Mine Force Division.

Dalton worked at Fairchild Aircraft Facility and various woodworking shops in the Hagerstown area. He also worked 34 years for the railway service in Hagerstown, but mostly at the Baltimore area railway yards.

He spent his early retirement years at the WV cabin and was a NASCAR fan most of his life. He was part owner of a modified race car that was raced at the local dirt tracks in MD, VA, and PA back in the 1950s and 1960s.

He is survived by his sister, Calleen Barkman-Crowther and the McCully family of St. Johns, FL. He had many friends and relatives in the tri-state area including Dorothea M. Smith, his friend for many years.

In addition to his parents, Dalton was preceded in death by two sisters, Eloise Barkman and Dorcas Barkman; one brother, Kevin Barkman; and brother-in-law, F. Richard Crowther, II.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
