Obituary

Cynthia Elizabeth Smith Williams, 79, of Frederick, Maryland was called home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 28, 2026. She was born on December 12, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Dana Bartlett Smith, Sr. and Lois Thompson Smith.

Cynthia grew up in the Cedmont neighborhood of Baltimore, graduating from Mergenthaler High School shortly before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ben. Cynthia thrived in her role as a homemaker, mother, aunt, and friend. Together, this devoted couple built a rich life, residing in the Valley Meade neighborhood of Ellicott City for over 50 years, before moving to Frederick in retirement.

While raising her two daughters, Cynthia volunteered much of her time at her church and led several Girl Scouts troops. Her outgoing and magnetic personality allowed her to pursue countless friendships and interests, including: music, dancing, camping, sewing, gardening, caring for pets, canning, baking, reading for both enjoyment and self-development, and studying the Bible. As her children became teens, Cynthia adopted the name "Cindy" and she re-entered the workforce as an executive receptionist for Eyre Bus and Travel in Glenelg and served over ten years helping others visit new places and create memorable experiences. After retiring from this position, she took pride in being a full-time "Mommom" and could almost always be found with a grandchild, or more, in tow.

With abundant grace and unbridled enthusiasm, she welcomed everyone she knew with warm and wide-open arms of love. Her passion for entertaining friends and family on countless joyous occasions in the home she cherished illuminated those beautiful qualities. Even towards the end of her life, she always remained more concerned about the interests of others above her own. Her life was a continual pursuit of seeking the highest good for the ones she loved and she was relentlessly selfless in this endeavor. However, most of all, Cynthia had a love for Christ that shined upon everyone she encountered. She was previously a longtime member of Chapelgate Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City and Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville. Her personal faith and sharing the good news of Christ's love will always remain her most precious legacy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dana Bartlett Smith, Jr.

She is survived by husband, C. Bennett Williams; daughters, Carolyn Flores (Tom) and Janet Broadhurst (Jon); grandchildren, Stefanie Broadhurst (Travis), Bennett Walker (Shelley), Valerie Gorden, Adam Gorden, and Alexandra Broadhurst; and great-grandsons, Wayne Walker and Cole Walker.

Cynthia's family has a sincere and heartfelt gratitude for all the residents and staff at Sunrise Senior Living of Frederick and Frederick Health Hospice who provided invaluable support to her in the final years of her life. They are not only appreciated, but part of cherished memories formed through a special bond of love.
