Constance "Connie" Ann McGowan, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at home.  Born Friday, July 21, 1944, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Garrett Hait Poffenberger and the late Fannie Louise (Burger) Poffenberger.

Connie graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1962. She was an active member of Paramount Brethren in Christ Church.

In her younger years, she worked at Newberry Department Store as well as Dorbee Dress Facatory, Rocco's, Maryland Ribbon Company, and retired from Sears.

Connie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her favorite pass times were playing cards, bingo and going to Charlestown Casino's to play slot machines.

During her younger years, she had a small ceramic shop in her basement. Other hobbies she would do in her spare time were making floral arrangements and giving them to her friends.

She was a member and bowled duck pins at Southside Bowling with her husband. She was a collector of anything with roosters, chickens, and angels.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles Franklin McGowan, Sr. of Hagerstown, MD; her son, Charles Franklin McGowan, Jr and wife Wendy, of Smithsburg, MD; daughter, Michelle Renee Soper and Rick Soper of Hagerstown, MD; granddaughter, Candace Winters and Grand Baker; great grandchildren, Hunter, Kayden, Luke, Parker, Hayden, and Raelynn; grandson, Joseph Staley IV, wife, Amber; great grandchildren, Joseph Staley V, Christian Dowler, Jamir, Juliana, Jakai, Jaxon, and Jemma; granddaughter, Shawnee Coss and husband, Jordan; great grandchildren, Clarity and Brylnn; and her siblings, Eddie Poffenberger, Thelma Socks, Richard Poffenberger, Gary Poffenberger, Jeff Poffenberger, Thea Gross, and Tina Brashears.

Connie was preceded in death by her infant son, Richard Lane McGowan; her brothers, Kenneth Poffenberger and Donald Poffenberger; sisters, Betty Beckley and Ruby Kline; and sister-in-law, Doris Poffenberger.

The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Friday, November 8, 2024 with Pastor Jacob Harrison officiating at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm.
