CLAIRE ANNE MUMMA, 55, of 17717 Crest Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Monday, February 07, 2005 at her home. Born March 23, 1949 in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Anne Harriet Huyett Minnich. She graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1967, received an AA in Teacher Education from Hagerstown Junior College in 1972, and was a member of the graduating class of Leadership Hagerstown in 2003. Claire was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hagerstown. She was a member of the Parish Choir, Trinity Bell Ringers, the Altar Guild, served on the Property Committee and is a former church council member. Claire was employed by Beaver Mechanical Contractors for 17 years, employed with Honeywell Inc. for five years, and retired from Callas Contractors in 2000. Claire devoted her life to community service, especially programs that enhanced the lives of women and children. She was a Past Honored Queen and Past Bethel Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters. She received recognition of contribution to community life in 1987 from the Alumni Association of Hagerstown Junior College. Her community involvement also included the Mason Dixon Council Boy Scouts of America where she was a Den Leader, Round Table Commissioner, Unit Commissioner, and in 1985 received the Order of Merit Award for Distinguished Service. Claire continued her community service through serving as a Past President of the American Business Women's Association and was Woman of the Year in 1996. She was appointed in 2001 to serve on the Washington County Commission for Women by the Washington County Board of County Commissioners. Claire was also appointed to the Washington County Citizen Corps Committee and served on the Citizen's Emergency Day 2004. Claire served as Chair of the Greenberry Hills Neighborhood Watch. Claire's desire to enrich the lives of children was exemplified with her work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Washington County. Claire first joined this organization in 1990. She received her Doctor of the Art of Friendship in 2001, served on the Board of Directors, Chaired the Bowl for Kids Sake event for several years and was currently serving as their First Vice President. She was the founder and Social Director of the M&M's, which is a very unique group of women who shared a special friendship. Claire is survived by; one son, Matthew R. Alvord of Hagerstown; one daughter, Erin R. Eliassen of California; one brother, Scott M. Minnich, Sr., and wife, Diona, of Hagerstown; and two nieces, two nephews, three cousins, and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Quentin J. Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p. m.
