Obituary

Chris Alan Schultz, Sr., 67, of Funkstown, MD, passed away Thursday morning, January 29, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

Born September 9, 1958, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late William Leroy Schultz, Sr. and Alleine Grace (Schaeffer) Schultz.

Chris served honorably in the U. S. Air Force from June of 1979 through June of 1995. He was a decorated soldier having served proudly in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He was a patriot who took pride in his service for his country.

Chris bought the Starlite Inn in 2000 from his father, which has been in the family since 1967. He also bought the old Mitzi's property and converted it into Moonlight Pool and Pub.

He was a member of the American Legion in Funkstown and in Boonsboro, MD. Chris was also a faithful member of the Maryland and E. West Virginia-APA Pool League for 24 years and he liked his politics.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Jude Burgess; his third wife, Gina Lawrence; one son, James Michael Schultz; and one brother, William Leroy Schultz, Jr.

Chris is survived by his fiancée, Paula Sandy; two daughters, Adrianne Wade, and husband, Charles Wade II, and Laura Lynn Schultz-Lugdon, and husband, Evan Lugdon; two sons, Chris Schultz, Jr., and wife, April Ayers, and Robert Schultz; 14 grandchildren, Austin M. Moore, Richard W. Harris, Jr., Gavin R.Wade, Michael C. Harris, Makayla H. Moore-Wade, Bradon A. Moore, Caitlin E. Wade, Timothy J. Rowland, Annastasia M. Rowland, Brandon L. Rowland, Christina J. Stanley, Andrew Hooper, Katherine C. Schultz, and Christopher A. Schultz; three great grandchildren, Axel James-Lee Rowland, Elizabeth Rowland, and Delilah Moore; and the Starlite/Moonlight patrons from over the years that are all considered family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 2-3pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The memorial service will follow at 3pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County.
