CHARLES HOWARD SMITH, 86, of 801 View Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Thursday, January 05, 2006 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Towson, Maryland. Born December 2, 1919 in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the lateLewis T. and Ethel Mae Shrader Smith. He graduated in 1939 from Hagerstown High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army. He was employed with Hays Inc. for thirty years as manager of Office Supply and Photographic Departments. He was later employed with Columbo Yogurt until the plant closed. He was a member of the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He was a member of the Optimist Club and was Past President; he served as a Judge for the Alsatia Club Parade in 1959; and was a past member of the Circus Fans Club, and judged photographs for the Circus Fans Photographic Club. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Helen Davis Smith; one daughter, Cheryle Anne Berquist of San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Charles Herbert Smith of Westover, Maryland, and David Paul Smith of Hagerstown; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Winona Flair; and two brothers, Lewis T. Smith, Jr. and Ronald L. Smith. Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Memorial donations may be made to the Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church, 2251 Williamsport Pike, Martinsburg, West Virginia 25401.
