Obituary

CHARLES EDWARD MCCARNEY, 93, of Hagerstown, MD. and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa. died on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital. Born January 15, 1916 in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry B. and Vesper Shriver Bloom McCarney. He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the Air Force. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Dean McCarney preceded him in death on March 24. 1989 He was employed by Mack Trucks as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1986. He was also employed by Fairchild, retiring in 1962. He was a lifelong member of Mechanics Fire Company of Waynesboro, Pa. He is a member of K of P�s Lodge #487; a member of AARP and the American Legion Post 00297 of Baltimore. He is survived by two daughters, Alice A. Manford and husband Jim and Gloria M. Burkett and husband John, all of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Joseph McCarney and wife Debbie of Hagerstown; two sisters, Hilda Cover of Waynesboro, Pa. and Betty Smith of Rouzerville, Pa.; two brothers, Harry McCarney, Jr. of Hagerstown and Robert McCarney of Rouzerville, Pa.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; cousins, Gladys Zegler of Gettysburg, Pa. and Martha Shanholtz; and a special companion, Violet Ferguson. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Marguarite Coffman of Waynesboro, Madeline Ridenour of Hagerstown and Janet Johnson of Waynesboro; and three brothers, Harry, Leroy and Wayne; and two step sons, Robert Curry and Jack Curry. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. R. William Wyand and Rev. Daniel Shifflett will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family requests the omission of flowers.
