CHARLES EDGAR HOFFMAN, 78, of 871 Pine Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital. Born March 10, 1931 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Howard C. and Blanche C. Kline Hoffman and step mother, Gladys Morningstar Hoffman. He was raised in the Quincy Orphanage in Quincy, PA. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Mack Trucks, Inc. after twenty-nine years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for fifty-one years. He is survived by his wife, Gladys M. Sparks Hoffman; three daughters, Diane Hoffman Ross and husband, Billy of Centerville, VA, Peggy Marie Shatzer and husband, Vaughn of Hagerstown, MD and Martha Jane Leipertz and husband, Donald of S. Riding, VA; one son, Howard Martin Hoffman and wife, Cindy of Kissimmee, Fl; two sisters, Betty Snook of Hagerstown, MD and Doris Bluebaugh of Waynesboro, PA; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald C. Hoffman. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Emmanuel U. M. Church, 802 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. Randall Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 42. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
