Charles Wilbur Baechtel, Jr., 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Fahrney-Keedy Senior Living Community. Born September 23, 1934 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Wilbur Baechtel, Sr. and Gladys Eileen (Semler) Baechtel.
Charles was a U. S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired as a conductor from Conrail. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Penn Central Railroad. He served over 40 years doing mission work, building schools and churches around the world.
Charles was a member of the American Legion, Post #42; a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church, the Royal Rangers FCF, and Boonsboro Family Worship Center. He loved to fish, especially at Snyder's Landing.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Elva (Wiles) Baechtel; one son, Jason Douglas Baechtel; two brothers, Thomas and James Baechtel; a granddaughter, Paris Snurr; and two aunts, Nancy and Betty.
Charles is survived by one son, Randy Lee Baechtel (Susan); two daughters, Kimberly Eileen Snurr (Robert) and Renee Lynne Jones (Monty); eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Caitlin, Timber, Tyler, Ali, Charles, Daniel, and Erin; and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 11am Friday, April 19, 2024, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside services will be provided by American Legion, Post #42. Pastor Jack Payne will officiate.
