Obituary

Carroll Edward Keller, 90, lifetime Hagerstown, MD, resident, passed peacefully at Creekside Village on March 7, 2026, with his family at his side.

Born February 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur Daniel and Ellen Katherine (Christ) Keller.

Carroll graduated from St. Mary Catholic School in 1954; earned his AA in Administration of Justice in 1996; was Class of 1982 at the National Sheriff's Institute; and served in the U. S. Army, 101st Airborne, from 1955-1958.

Carroll served his community with a 43-year career in law enforcement, spending 20 years as Office Supervisor with the Maryland State Police, and retiring as Chief Deputy, Washington County Sheriff's Department after 23 years.

Carroll's life exceeded his work. He lived for trips to the beach, reading books on civil war history, hosting cookouts and Christmas parties, and completing complex puzzles. He was never happier than when surrounded by his children and their families.

Carroll did nothing without the presence of his soulmate, devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Dolly Joyce (Stevens) Keller. Carroll leaves her behind, but is surrounded by their 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. His surviving family is Kathleen E. Rishell and husband, John; Caroline M. Rock and husband, Robert; Gregory P. Keller and wife, Jennifer; Charles E. Keller and wife, Margaret; and Joseph L. Keller.

He is also survived by two sisters, Jean M. Keller and Mary H. Helmer, both of Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded by one sister, Phyllis Burgess; 10 brothers, Gerald Keller, Rev. Fr. Robert Keller, Kenneth Keller, Ronald Keller, Richard Keller, James Keller, P. Thomas Keller, Michael Keller, David Keller and Lynn Keller; and one granddaughter, Stephanie N. Keller.

Carroll was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro; American Legion Post #279; Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, Council #1365; and a lifetime member of the Maryland Sheriff's Association. He was a past member of Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, from 6-8pm Friday, March 13, 2026, with a prayer service at 6pm. Color guard honors provided by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Funeral services will be at 10am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with graveside military honors provided by Joint Veteran Council and Marine Corps League of Washington County.
