Carroll Edward Braun Sr. of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away on October 22, 2017. Born on November 2, 1942 in Marley Park, Maryland, he was the youngest son of the late Layton C. Braun Sr. and Edna L. Braun. Carroll was preceded in death by his brothers, Layton C. Braun Jr. and George W. Braun and his son Daniel Benjamin Braun. He is survived by his wife Helen Smith Braun of Hagerstown, MD, brother Robert L. Braun of Pasadena, MD, and 4 children. Daughter Valerie Braun Soemadi and husband Andreas Soemadi, of Iowa City, Iowa. Sons, Carroll E. Braun Jr. and wife Heather Braun of Mercersburg, PA; Sean C. Braun and wife Sally Braun of Arlington, TX; and James E. Boyd and Debbie Snow of Louisville, KY as well as 13 grandchildren. Carroll along with his wife of 56 years (and 10 months and 1 day) served as officers (ministers) with The Salvation Army. They attended The Salvation Army School for Officers Training, in Atlanta, GA from 1977-1979. After completing their schooling they served with The Salvation Army in various appointments including, Fairmont, WV, Big Spring, TX, Texarkana, TX, Mexico City, Mexico, Baton Rouge, LA, Louisville, KY, Memphis, TN, and Anniston, AL. Carroll also served on two separate mission trips, one to Santiago, Chile and the other to Zimbabwe, Africa. Carroll and Helen retired to Hagerstown, MD where they attended and volunteered at The Salvation Army on George Street. While retired they were requested by The Salvation Army to come out of retirement on 3 occasions to serve in Huntington, WV, Martinsburg, WV, and Baltimore, MD. Viewing will be at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD on Friday, October 27 from 6pm - 8pm. Services will be held at The Salvation Army, 525 George St., Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, October 28 at 11am. A viewing will be at the same location at 10am. Major Robert Lyle will be officiating, followed by committal at Rose Hill Cemetery.
