Carolyn Marie
Elmore
May 16, 1945 — May 28, 2024
Carolyn Marie Stone Elmore, 79, passed from this life into the arms of the Lord she loved and served on May 28, 2024, surrounded by her four children. Though her homegoing leaves us missing her, we rejoice that she is finally free from pain and is now walking, laughing, singing with the angels, and breathing Heaven's air with her new Heavenly body and has reunited with her husband of 55 years, Reverend Kendal Elmore.
Carolyn was born in Bassett, Virginia to Wilbert and Laura Stone, and was the youngest of seven children. She will be greatly missed by her four children: Tracey Elmore of Gainesville, VA, Amy Williams and husband Dan, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Angela Nelson and husband Steve of Oldtown, MD, and her only begotten son, Matthew Elmore and wife Jessica of Manassas, VA; granddaughters Carrie Lynn and husband Jason, Hannah and husband Caleb, Anna Beth, Becca Grace, Madison, Sarah, Makayla, and Morgann; great grandchildren Judson, Theodore, Jaxon, and Lucy; her brothers and sisters Leland, Edwin, Laura Jean, Phillip, and Emma Ruth, brother in Law, Rodney, many nieces and nephews, and countless brothers and sisters in Christ. Carolyn is preceded in death and reunited in Heaven with her husband, her father and mother, her brother Ellis, her precious granddaughter Rachel Faith, and her closest friend and honorary sister, Sandi Sonafrank.
After graduating from Bassett High School, Carolyn attended Ferrum College where she met and married her husband. Together in ministry, they served churches in Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Carolyn's ministry included leading worship, directing church choirs, writing and directing numerous cantatas, and teaching Bible studies for women and youth. Like her husband, Carolyn remained firmly committed to Biblical truth when others in ministry might be tempted to compromise or bend to popular appeal. She was a prayer warrior and prayed often, both for and with the people she loved. Carolyn eventually became a licensed and ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, and her highlights were baptizing several of her granddaughters and officiating at granddaughter Hannah's wedding in 2022.
Carolyn will be fondly remembered for how deeply she loved her Savior Jesus Christ, her children and grandchildren, performing and listening to Christian music, especially the Gaither Homecomings, her quirky food preferences, her sense of style, and of course, her beloved cats.
Carolyn's body failed her greatly in recent years, and it was clear that her earthly body was worn out. Her children lovingly cared for her during the past few years, and when she could no longer live alone, she came to live with her daughter Amy, where she would enjoy riding by to see the ocean after doctor appointments and late night snacks at pill time with her son-in-law, Dan. In her final moments here on Earth, Carolyn was surrounded by all of her children and as the song played, "My chains are gone, I've been set free," she opened her eyes, looked up with delight, took a beautiful deep breath, and then stepped into Glory.
There will be a public Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 15 at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship located at 14010 Greencastle Pike in Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Carolyn's memory with a donation to global missions ministry at www.abwe.org/0171661
