Obituary

Carole Jean Holsinger Spickler, 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born August 20, 1936, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Gladys (Reed) Holsinger.

Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Robert Spickler of the Maryland State Police.

Carole was a graduate of Hagerstown High School Class of 1954 and Hagerstown Junior College earning her AA degree and then attending The University of Baltimore where she earned her BS in Criminal Justice. Carole also served as a substitute teacher at Funkstown Elementary School. Earlier in her life, she worked alongside her father at C. M. HOLSINGER FRESH & CURED MEATS, on the Broadfording road where she was a butcher. Carole was also a talented artisan and a member of the Cumberland Valley Crafts Guild. She enjoyed weaving baskets, painting, and creating stained glass pieces.

Carole was known for her strength and work ethic, as well as her deep love of nature. She especially enjoyed spending time outdoors and had a passion for flowers and gardening. Above all, she loved her son beyond measure.

She is survived by her son, Robert B. Spickler II.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Hilton.

A visitation will be held at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 6:00-8:00pm.
